When we hear about facial aesthetic enhancements we often think about Botox to retain the fountain of youth. What many people may not know is that Botox (or Botulinum neurotoxin) is that it’s a toxin first and foremost. It works by blocking neurons (or nerves) and by injecting it into wrinkled areas it causes paralysis of muscle fibers to keep it taught and the effects last as long as it takes the nerve to grow back (about 90-180 days). Instead, acupuncture a centuries-old means of graceful aging, works to address and help correct, or change, the trajectory of the natural aging process. Facial aesthetic rejuvenation acupuncture is not a quick fix with one injection in multiple sites as commercial Botox injections do, but rather a compounded series of treatments over 5 to 10 weeks with lasting effects and occasional “tune-ups”. Acupuncture needles placed in the face generate something called “microtrauma”, a similar process as in what you experience during wound healing. It helps to facilitate the generation of collagen and blood circulation to help fill in wrinkles and help with skin discoloration too. Don't think that just because time has yet to catch up with you that facial rejuvenation can't assist you! It can be used as a preventative treatment or for those with some “trouble spots” on their face. Facial acupuncture can help to generate some symmetry without making it look unnatural.
